Round two brought great games of football played across the District, marked by the Warragul Blues v Bunyip in their traditiona­l Anzac Day clash at Bunyip.

Fantastic Autumn weather saw some huge scorelines along with some tightly contested matches throughout the age groups. Warranor v Yarragon Under 10 With a little wind and plenty of sunshine Warranor took on a very determined and skilful Yarragon, side who kept Warranor to just two goals in the first half due to their excellent defensive pressure.

Warranor kept working the ball forward to create scoring opportunit­ies and came away with a hard-fought win. Some positive signs from both teams for a fantastic season. Under 12 On a beautiful morning for Warranor’s first home game, Warranor made the most of all their opportunit­ies and kicked a solid winning score.

Both teams played in good spirit and well contested. Under 14 Both teams played a fast-paced game. Yarragon kicked a few great kicks to lead a quarter time.

The entire game was very well matched with both teams playing extremely well.

Warranor moved the ball well and fought hard to break through a strong Yarragon defence.

Warranor’s Nathan Whitten and Mark Kennon played their 75th games. Colts v Longwarry Under 10 A beautiful day with plenty of dew on the ground made for a slippery game of footy.

Both teams fought hard with a solid first quarter with quick moving passages from both sides.

Strong tackles throughout the game kept the game very even with spectators kept on their feet all the way to the final siren, with Colts coming out winners by two points. Under 12 Colts showed great perseveran­ce against a skilful Longwarry who game out with a strong win.

Colts players Jeremy Comley and Tom Vickery played their 50th games. Under 14 Both teams came out ready to play with a contested first quarter.

What was a one-sided contest on the scoreboard, on the field it was a well fought game by both sides however Longwarry too strong in the end. Bunyip v Blues Under 10 In a tough game in beautiful conditions, Warragul Blues worked the ball well and were too strong for Bunyip.

To their credit Bunyip never stopped trying and go the ball into their forward numerous times and were rewarded with a goal in the last quarter. Under 12 Against a very accomplish­ed Warragul Blues outfit, Bunyip put on a fantastic four quarter effort in their traditiona­l Anzac Day battle.

The first quarter was an even contest with Blues getting an early goal. Bunyip fought hard with the tackling and commitment however were unlucky with their accuracy, hitting the post three times in the third quarter.

It was a great tight tussle with the Blues running out eventual winners. Under 14 Both teams worked hard to get the scores on the board.

Bunyip showed real developmen­t through the game with their tall men working forward to get them in front.

A late answer by the Blues but Bunyip stood strong to win the game. Garfield v Caldermead­e Under 10 Early morning fog cleared to a sunny start with no wind advantage, in stark contrast to last week’s game.

A tight contest in the first quarter resulted in nil score for either side.

Garfield came out stronger in the second quarter with some great kicking resulting in three goals. Caldermead­e rallied well with an excellent goal scored early in the third quarter.

Caldermead­e’s attacking play dominated the final quarter, however Garfield’s defences held staunchly, and they were able to run out victor by 10 points. Under 12 Garfield game out strong in the first half with the Caldermead­e following close behind at the half time break.

The second half was an even game and defends were tight from both teams which made for a great game. At the final siren it was Garfield for the win. Under 14 On a pristine day for football Caldermead­e got off to a shaky start against a very strong Garfield side and never recovered with Garfield scoring strongly in all quarters.

Caldermead­e defended bravely and took some spectacula­r marks. Garfield dominated the whole game keeping Caldermead­e goalless. Garfield running out 93-point winner. Drouin Gold v The Bulls Under 10 Drouin Gold led at half time in a very close match.

Drouin Gold got the lead with a couple of goals in the second half, the only thing to separate them from The Bulls, eventually coming home 10-point winner. Under 12 The Bulls came out strong kicking two undefeated goals in the first quarter.

Drouin Gold attempted to fight back in the third quarter scoring a couple of points but The Bulls’ forward was too strong on the day, giving them a 25-point win. Under 14 Drouin came out strong and dominated the whole game against an undermanne­d Bulls side, who to their credit did not give up. It was a sea of Gold for a well-deserved win. Hallora v Ellinbank Under 10 In what was a cracker morning for football, Hallora hosted Ellinbank in an exciting game of footy.

It was a goal scored by the away side in the first quarter that ended up being the deciding score for what was a thrilling match.

Both teams fought hard with some great skill and strong defence under pressure. Under 12 Hallora kicked the first but Ellinbank soon had a score on the board, kicking the next few.

Hallora fought hard in the last kicking another goal but could not make the most of their chances. Ellinbank’s senior boys showed great leadership. Under 14 Hallora began well kicking the first goal coming from great ruck work in the centre.

Both teams were running hard in an even game.

The second half had both teams having to defend continuous­ly, keeping the scoring low however Ellinbank got across the line by 22points. Buln Buln v Neerim District Under 10 In perfect conditions at Buln Buln the children played out in a tightly fought match.

It came down to the wire with Buln Buln in front at the final siren, winning by three-points. Under 12 It was Buln Buln’s first home game for the season and both teams took to the ground determined to get a score on the board.

Both sides played great football with Neerim starting strong with Buln trying hard showing some great defence although Neerim South were too strong on the day. Under 14 The first quarter was strongly fought out with an even contest prevailing with Neerim Districts kicking two goals in the dying moments of the second quarter.

However Buln drew away with some excellent carry of the football and ran out convincing winner.

Drouin Maroon had the bye.
