Art workshops on offer

-

Workshops for adults and children will highlight Baw Baw Arts Alliance’s contribution to Gippsland annual art festival “Come and Play” in May.

Artist and teacher Alison Bain is running a workshop on “Embossing with a Collagraphic Plate” next Tuesday (May 1) with day and evening sessions on offer.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to use the newly acquired printing press at the Trafalgar Railway Station’s Artspaces.

Collagraphy has previously been thought of as the poor person’s etching because plates are made from accessible materials such as cardboard, string and fabric. With a growing move toward “green printing”, the idea of not using acid to etch a design into a metal plate is very appealing.

Don’t be put off by a lack of experience or the printmaking jargon, as this is an easy and fun entry into printmaking.

This workshop is designed to cater for all skill levels, with a session at 10am to 2.30pm and 6pm to 10pm. Students will use embossed blind print as a basis for a mixed media piece of art by overlaying drypoint plates, drawing, hand-stitching and/or collage.

The cost to attend is $25 for members or $26 for non-members.

Email bain.alison.w@gmail.com for bookings and equipment list.

Workshops in needle felting, felting with international artist Catherine O’Leary, glass engraving with local artist Peter Cummings and a metal and wire “taster” by local artist Kay Lancashire will all be held in May.

“Glue Gun Fun” will offer children an opportunity to construct exciting creations from a massive array of materials on Sunday, May 20.

Jessie McLennan and Prue Barridge have been collecting natural and man-made materials that are guaranteed to stimulate all aspiring artists.

The session will be held from 10am to 12noon and 1pm to 3pm at the Trafalgar Railway Station’s Artspaces.

The cost is $10 per child. Call Prue on 0417 500 244.

It follows Jessie and Prue providing high energy art activities for primary school aged children during the recent school holidays.

The children produced mosaics with wonderful glittering bits and pieces, watercolour paintings using brushes and plastic straws, and three-dimensional structures of high-rise towers, garages and monsters.
