Swap meet hailed success

-

The Drouin Rotary Club’s 16th annual swap meet, market stalls and show and shine was held at Lardner Park recently in favourable weather conditions.

With excellent support - some stall-holders being first-time attendees at Drouin.

Earnings from the swap meet and from other fund-raising activities, such as the monthly produce and craft markets, will be allocated to local causes and other Rotary projects later in the year.

The show and shine section of the event attracted a record 80 entries from local and visiting enthusiasts, with first prize going to David Crumpton from Phillip Island with his 1957 Chevrolet Belair, second prize to Peter Abdullah of Drouin with his 1959 Ford Customline, and third to Rick Navas also of Drouin with his 1965 Ford Galaxy.

In the classic motorcycle section, Les Salmon took out first prize with his 1924 Douglas TS, and Bill Petschack second with his 1974 Triumph Trident.

Co-ordinator of the swap meet, Rotarian Bill Petschack, assisted by Ian Haughton, and was supported by an organising committee comprising several club members, with some 50 Rotarians, partners of members, and friends of the Club being involved in running the event.

Bill remarked on the success of this event over the years, culminating in the attendance of 130 stallholders this year.

Club president David Proposch acknowledged all members and helpers who had worked solidly to present the club’s record 16th swap meet, and thanked particularly the loyal stallholders and patrons who had supported the event over the years.
