Changes to subdivision proposal

-

Upgrades to Warragul’s Mason Street have almost been completed with the roundabout at intersection of Mason and William streets quickly taking shape.

Showers did not deter construction crews from finishing off works on the small roundabout on Friday morning as they worked towards their June deadline.

A spokesperson for Baw Baw Shire Council said the $250,000 roundabout would be substantially complete next month.

“The works involve construction of the new small roundabout and widening of the road towards the east between Palmerston Street and Queen Street,” she said.

“The aim of these works is to improve the flow of traffic, particularly for traffic turning out of William Street.”

The Mason Street improvement works also include increasing the width of the road pavement along the eastern side of the road, alteration to stormwater pits and underground pipes, installation of a new light pole at the intersection of Mason Street and William Street, resurfacing of Mason Street between Queen Street and Palmerston Street and new line marking of road carriageway and carparks.

A modified proposal for a residential development on land formerly owned by the Drouin Golf and Country Club has been lodged with Baw Baw Shire for approval.

The modifications include a drainage plan that was specifically sought by council when it approved a development plan for the site in February.

Developers Sowsee Pty Ltd plans to establish a low density residential subdivision of about 154 lots.

The project has been subject to opposition from predominantly nearby residents for more than two years.

Initial objections were to any development being permitted and later to elements of the subdivision plan.

The latest planning application submitted on May 4 states there are “no relevant planning matters that prevent the development proposal being considered”.

The area is zoned for low density residential development and the application to council includes technical assessments relating to the giant Gippsland earthworm, flora and fauna, Aboriginal cultural heritage, stormwater management, traffic impacts, infrastructure servicing and drainage management.
