Tribute to Petula

-

A tribute to Petula Clarke’s career spanning more than six decades will be performed at the Darnum Memorial Hall on Friday at 11am.

“Downtown to Broadway” is not your standard tribute show – it is a labour of love and respect. Starring Hilary Henshaw and Will Conyers, it seeks to highlight Petula’s story and varied repertoire.

To date, Petula has recorded more than 1000 songs and sold more than 68 million recordings, and is still loving every moment.

The performance will feature many timeless hits, including “A Sign of the Times”, “The Other Man’s Grass”, “This is My Song” and “Downtown”.

Petula evolved from a child star bringing songs and messages (sometimes encoded) to soldiers during World War II to 60s sensation, star of stage and screen, and concert performer who still delivers with as much passion and skill as ever.

Hilary Henshaw and Will Conyers grew up tapping their toes to Petula’s hits of the 60s and continue to follow her career with fascination as she keeps abreast of the times, performing and recording new and different genres.

Petula’s contribution to movies, such as “Finian’s Rainbow” and “Goodbye, Mr. Chips”, is also celebrated, as well as her musical theatre achievements. Did you know that she was the longest running ever Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard”?

Tickets are $24 for adults, $20 for concession, $15 for members and groups, and $10 for under 18s.

A bus service from Warragul is available with bookings required.

For bookings or further information, contact the West Gippsland Arts Centre box-office on 5624 2456 or visit wgac.org.au.
