Drouin celebrate past players

-

Drouin Dragons Soccer Club celebrated its past players day on Saturday with a good turnout at Bellbird Park.

With hockey, soccer and junior football played during the day parking was at a premium with cars filling up all the available spaces including Settlement and Lampards Rd.

Teams from Casey Panthers, Phillip Island and Warragul played on Saturday afternoon with four out the five pitches utilised on the day at Bellbird Park.

Drouin Dragons under 16s and under 14s played a friendly due to a bye, and dressed in the old team uniforms to celebrate the past players day.

The celebrations went into the evening with “back to the 70s” social night, which saw some great costumes worn by parents and players.

The first game played was the Drouin Dragons Reserves up against a determined Casey, who started the game strong scoring a couple of quick goals.

The result at full time was Casey six goals to Drouin two goals.

The second game played was a top of the ladder clash against the Phillip Island under 12s, which saw the half time score at 1 all.

The second half was tight with quite a few shots at goal, however the two teams couldn’t convert with both goal keepers doing a great job.

The game ended in a two all draw, which sees Drouin remain on top of the ladder.

Next up was the senior women playing against Warragul.

Both teams played well and had plenty of opportunities in front of goal.

However Warragul got the better over Drouin on the day with former Drouin player Jessica Nalty, now playing at Warragul, scoring the only two goals for the game.

The final game of the day was the senior state team playing against Casey Panthers.

With a good number of spectators watching including past players and life members, the game was always going to be a hotly contested match with both teams in similar spots on the ladder.

Drouin Dragons played well, however the end result was three goals to one with Casey taking the points.

Warragul go down

Meanwhile, WarragulUnited went down to Mornington 1-0 in divsion one of state league.

The loss saw Warragul drop to seventh on the ladder.

Strikers compete

Bunyip put in a competitive effort against old Mentonians in division five, going down 32.

Heading into half time locked at 1-1, the Mentonians had the better of the second half.

The Strikers will take confidence from the result, having matched it with the fourthplaced side.

Bunyip didn’t fare as well in the Reserves, going down 10-2.

Facing a 4-0 deficit at half time, it didn’t improve in the second half although the Strikers did manage to score two consolation goals.
