Turner award open
Nominations for Trafalgar Lions Club’s Russ Turner encouragement award are now open.
The club established the award in 1997 to honour the memory of the late Russ Turner, a respected Trafalgar businessman working in the automotive industry.
One of his qualities was the ability to get alongside young people just starting out in the workforce and, by assisting them to develop their skills and self-confidence, he helped them to achieve their full potential.
The club established the encouragement award as a means of continuing this practice. It is awarded to the applicant judged to be the most deserving or in need, not necessarily the highest achiever.
Recipients must have completed at least one year of level three or four training or apprenticeship.
Awardees must either live or work in the Trafalgar area and be under the age of 25 as at June 30. Application forms are available from Trafalgar and District Community Bank.
Nominees will then be asked to attend a brief interview with the club’s award committee, which is a team of members of the Trafalgar Lions Club.
All participants will be invited to attend a regular dinner meetings, where the successful applicant will be announced, and he/she will be presented with a cheque for $1000. Applications close on June 13.
