Garfield rediscovered some form to power away from Dalyston in the second half and win 16-18 (114) to 8-14 (62).

Trailing by a point up against the struggling Magpies at quarter time, Garfield’s indifferent form looked as if it may continue before the Stars lifted.

Thirteen goals to five after quarter time resulted in comfortable victory for the Stars, although the Magpies were still in touch into the final term.

Three goals to one in the second term opened up a small buffer at half time, the Stars heading into the final change leading by 19-points having taken the edge in a tight third term.

Six goals to one in the final term saw the Stars run away with it.

Daniel Johnson kicked five goals, while Sam Batson, Corie Intveen, Joseph Verleg, Damion Denysenko and Dean Johnson also helped the Stars finish comfortable victor.

Goon in hunt

Nar Nar Goon will take positives that it can match it with reigning premier Inverloch-Kongwak.

A lapse across the second and third quarters, where the Sea Eagles booted nine goals to three, proved costly as the Goon fell short by just 14-points, 11-7 (73) to 8-11 (59).

The Goon took a narrow threepoint lead following a tight opening term, only to fall behind with a 36-point deficit at the final change as the Sea Eagles began to find it easier to score.

Four goals to one in the final quarter showed what the Goon are capable of producing at their best, but the three-quarter-time deficit proved too much to overcome.

Troy McDermott was the most effective forward on the day, finishing with five goals.

Trent Armour, Jake Blackwood, Sam Blackwood and Trent Noy were also influential as the Goon stormed home.

Cobras hold on

Cora Lynn did enough to hold off cellar dwellars KorumburraBena in a match between two sides likely to finish outside of the five.

The Giants took a seven-point lead into the first break and the Cobras were in for a battle.

Holding a narrow four-point lead at half time, the Cobras were able to extend the lead by a further goal but still the Giants were threatening to pull off another upset.

Three goals to one in the final term put paid to any hopes for the visitor, going down 10-11 (71) to 7-7 (49).

Thomas Spiglich, Brayden Weller, Lochie Peluso, Jeremy Monckton, Nicholas Helsby and Chris Johnson helped the Cobras hold on for victory.

Panthers thumped

Phillip Island did its finals chances no harm, thumping Kilcunda-Bass 20-15 (135) to 45 (29).

The Panthers kept in touch at the first change but couldn’t match their rivals from that point, the Bulldogs booting 16 goals to two after the first change to put the final margin beyond 100 points.

Demons scare Dogs

Finals aspirants Koo wee rup took control for the most part against lower ranked Bunyip on the way to comfortable victory, 18-16 (124) to 9-12 (66).

The Demons kicked six goals to two in the first quarter but were never headed, although the Bulldogs kicked four goals to two in the second term to remain in touch at the long break.

The Bulldogs couldn’t sustain the effort as the Demons resumed control, kicking 10 goals to three in the second half to run away with it.

Jason Wells terrorised the Bulldogs defence with eight goals, while David Collins, Troy Dolan, Liam Hetherington, Rory Connelly and Anthony Giuliano also helped the Demons maintain control.

Reid Jenkin, Matthew O’Halloran, Nathan Allen, Ben Wright and Jason Fisher were the better players for Bunyip.
