Juniors finding their feet

-

As we near the half way mark in the Warragul and District Junior Football League, teams have found their feet and are settling into their own rhythms, putting their skills to the test against stronger sides and not giving and inch.

The Interleague nominated players had their first training run at Eastern Park and are excited about the lead up to the interleague carnival held in Sale over two days, July 3 and 4. Bunyip v Longwarry Under 10 Great teamwork by Bunyip in the first half saw them leading at half time.

Longwarry improved in the second half and with a solid third quarter, were able to get in front and hold for the win. Under 12 Both teams played well in what was a very competitive hard-fought game.

Bunyip were unable to match a well organised Longwarry side who finished strong to take the win. Under 14 Up against the ladder leaders, Bunyip found the going tough and struggled to contain the run and carry.

Hard and tough football was played out and Longwarry too strong with a solid four quarter effort. Neerim District v Drouin Gold Under 10 Neerim put up good contest against Drouin Gold in the first half.

Drouin proved too strong with consistent marking and accurate kicking taking the win for the day. Under 12 Neerim fought hard to stop Drouin Gold from scoring.

Drouin’s strong play from the centre bounce got them over the line for a win. Under 14 Beautiful conditions greeted Drouin Gold at Neerim South in what turned out to be an entertaining contest.

Drouin’s inaccuracy kept the young Cats in the game early before the stronger bodies of Drouin began to assert their dominance. Ellinbank v Caldermeade Under 10 In very foggy conditions that made seeing the play very difficult, Caldermeade came out strong with great ball movement.

Ellinbank fought back in the second however Caldermeade came out firing in the second half to claim the game. Under 12 Lots of defensive play from both sides and scores were tight for the entire game.

Ellinbank dominated the centre clearances and combined well in the last quarter scoring three quick goals to run away with the win. Under 14 Ellinbank opened up the scoring, starting from a great centre clearance.

The second half Caldermeade worked hard with great ball kicking to get the game to a draw with only three minutes to go, Ellinbank managed to kick a behind for the win.

A fantastic spectacle of football by both clubs.

Ellinbank’s Connor Eade played his 50th game. Warragul Blues v The Bulls Under 10 An even second and third quarter by both teams ensured a tight finish.

A Bulls goal with three minutes to go gave them a five-point lead and the win. Under 12 Blues got off to a flyer, kicking a goal inside the first minute and after dominating the first quarter led by three goals at the first break.

The Bulls tried hard all day and scored a goal in the last quarter as a reward for effort. Under 14 An undermanned Bulls side worked hard and gave their very best to slow the Blues down in the last.

With some help from Blues players that played over, the Bulls went on to outscore the Blues in the last quarter. Yarragon v Hallora Under 10 Hallora displayed fantastic teamwork and fast ball movement.

Yarragon’s young players battled all day, managing to kick a couple of goals in the second half through some great teamwork. Yarragon’s Archie Cook played his 50th game. Under 12 Yarragon played hard, fast footy and Hallora was up to the task.

Yarragon kicked away through the game with Hallora coming home strong but fell one goal short, a great game from both sides. Yarragon’s Beau Halliday played his 50th game. Under 14 Yarragon kicked the first goal against a well contested Hallora who fought hard, but Yarragon were just too strong running away with the win.

Hallora’s Bryce Townsend played his 50th game. Drouin Maroon v Warranor Under 10 In an awesome display of football by both teams, Warranor took an early lead as the sun started to shine through the clouds.

The lead changed a few times with the final quarter being a real arm wrestle and Drouin Maroon taking the win by one point. Under 12 Drouin tried hard all day but Warranor were the better team on the day. Under 14 Both teams came out hard and kept the pressure on for the entire game.

Drouin Maroon held a strong defence but Warranor fought hard to come away with the win. Garfield v Colts Under 10 Garfield started well in the first term before a more determined Colts team peppered the forward line in the second quarter and were unlucky not to get a goal.

The last quarter saw Garfield run out winners in a game full of great spirit. Under 12 Garfield dominated all four quarters but the hard work by Colts kept Garfield to the lowest opposition score of their season and showed improvement all over the ground. Garfield’s Will Brown played his 50th game. Under 14 A very one-sided game with Garfield kicking ahead in the first quarter and staying well on top for the entire game.

The Colts fought hard all day and played in good spirits taking some great marks and to their credit, they never gave up.

Buln Buln had the bye.
