Event coordinator Donna Hallam said people could enjoy the wonderful displays of lanterns and art installations, enjoying the night with neighbours and friends in the community spirit of old.
The Warragul Winterfest and Lantern Parade was formed by a small group of committed local artists, musicians and community representatives with ties to Warragul Community Garden, who came together with a shared idea to hold a free family friendly old-fashioned community festival in Warragul.
It aims to see Warragul come alive during the cold quiet months of winter, create a magical fun night out for families, to bring together new and old families within the Shire and for them to make lasting memories and form friendships and connections to their local community.
Lantern making workshops are held throughout the Shire in the months leading up to Winterfest, providing local families and children an opportunity to participate in a fun hands-on creative project.
“We hold free and low cost workshops at many local schools, kindergartens and playgroups, the Warragul Farmers Market and throughout the Shire,” Ms Hallam said.
“Each lantern is another participant in the parade as families come to ‘show off’ their creations on the lantern parade and this is what families come to be a part of at the festival.”
Opportunities to make lanterns for the fstival will take place at Warragul Farmer's Market on Saturday, and at Community House on Thursday, June 21 from 5pm until 8pm.
All ages and abilities are welcome with cost per lantern $2.
