The third quarter saw the ongoing defensive efforts of Mackenzie Minichello and Renee Cook capitalised by the Gulls attack. As a result, Warragul took a seven-goal lead into the last quarter.

Alexandra Cole produced excellent feeding in the attack and was tireless defensively in the centre.

The Redlegs had a five-goal run early in the last quarter and got it back to a one-goal game. However, captain Jaime Rollinson steadied her team with some high-pressure goals to hold onto the lead.

Awards: Renee Cook, Mackenzie Minichello, Jaime Rollinson and Alexandra Cole. B grade: Warragul 45 defeated Bairnsdale 32. After a string of good wins, the Gulls headed to Bairnsdale hoping to continue the good work.

Starting off well but tapering skills and efficiency, Warragul made changes to try out new positional options and new team members.

Overall it was a great game, a real team effort and showcased exceptional defensive work. Award: Ellen Croft. C grade: Warragul 31 defeated Bairnsdale 29.

Warragul made the trek down the highway, intent on getting another win under its belt.

It was a tough and tightly fought contest for the second week in a row.

Lizzy Bayley, Claire Sandman and Kim Weller shot well and worked together nicely despite the varying combinations.

Tanya Barr played another great game, particularly her time in centre. She created turnovers with tight defensive pressure and intercepts.

Tanya continues to combine well with the always reliable Hannah McKenzie in wing attack.

Bairnsdale’s goalers were accurate but Matisse Olsson made the most of the few opportunities that came her way with strong rebounding in goal keeper.

Warragul’s defensive work through the midcourt paid off and allowed Sarah Hams to take numerous well-read intercepts in goal defence. Emily Sandman was once again instrumental in wing defence, both with her defence and in bringing the ball into attack.

To Warragul’s credit, they kept their composure throughout a very close match and were pleased to come away with a two-goal victory. Awards: Lizzy Bayley and Tanya Barr. Under 17s: Warragul 19 lost to Bairnsdale 48. Travelling down to Bairnsdale, Warragul did not come with the desired outcome after going down by 29 goals.

Indi Fries played a consistent game with good accuracy and kept going for rebounds. Grace Radford played a good game down both ends, providing plenty of height.

The girls played a solid first half against tough opposition. Well done.

Some clever positional changes by coaches Green and Cole saw solid performances down the spine and a distinctly improved second half from the Gulls. It was resulted in a much more even performance on the scoreboard.

It was one of those days where the score at the end of the game didn’t really reflect how even it was on court.
