Team building skills on display

-

The younger sides of the Warragul and District Junior Football League were excited this week to run out in warmer conditions as the sun shone brightly.

As clubs enter the meaty part of the season, the team building skills they have all been working on was evident and whole group play featured in many matches. Buln Buln v Drouin Gold Under 10 A slightly muddy field saw an excited gleam in the eyes of the under 10s, who hoped for a slippery muddy start.

Great defensive work by both teams in the first half kept the nil all score up to the half time break. Drouin kicked away in the third with some solid centre and forward work.

Buln scored a late goal in the final quarter but Drouin came away with the win. Under 12 With great conditions for footy the game started with both teams playing a tight game.

There was some great tackling from both sides and all in all a cracker of a game, with Drouin coming out victor. Under 14 Drouin Gold travelled to Buln to take on a very determined Buln team.

The game was hard fought but Gold’s teamwork was excellent and they came away with a win. Garfield v Hallora Under 10 Both sides started well with an almost even share of the ball.

Garfield asserted itself in the second quarter going into the main break with a two-goal lead. Hallora fought back hard in the third term, with a great goal and unlucky to get more, resulting in only a single point difference with a quarter to be played.

A very tight and exciting last quarter did not produce any score for either team, Garfield taking the points in their closest match for the season thus far. Under 12 Garfield got off to a great start with Hallora fighting hard and both teams playing very contested football.

Garfield kicked away in the last with Hallora finding it hard to put a score on the board. Under 14 Garfield started off strongly with some great play and early goals.

Hallora took some great marks, kicked well and never gave up. Colts v Warranor Under 10 In very good conditions Colts and Warranor fought out a hard contest of good football.

With impressive kicking and tackling both teams were even to the final siren, however it was Warranor that held on for a very tight win. Under 12 A wet start turned into a sunny day at Eastern Park where the children enjoyed a competitive game of footy.

The Colts tackled well and showed great pressure around the footy, which showed in the minor scores on the board for Warranor.

Warranor’s Ashton Wanigavitharana played his 50th game. Under 14 Warranor got the better of the Colts early through good ball movement and strong marking.

The Colts applied one on one pressure finding their own target and were unlucky to not be rewarded with a major. The final half saw contested football by both teams. Caldermeade v Neerim District Under 10 It was a strong first quarter for Caldermeade with Neerim District working hard throughout the entire match with some great tackles, kicks and contest.

Unfortunately player injury caused the game to be called off at the end of the third quarter. The Bulls v Ellinbank Under 10 The home side set the trend early setting the ground and the scoreboard alight.

Ellinbank were no match for the strength and precision of the Bulls. Under 12 A good start to the game saw the Bulls with an early lead in the game and got better as the day went on.

Team work by all players saw the Bulls pull away from Ellinbank, who was able to slow down the Bulls in the last quarter but it was far too late. Under 14 Bulls defended hard in the 1st quarter keeping Ellinbank to a low score and continued to apply the pressure and hold their positions in the second to outscore an experienced Ellinbank side.

The intensity and pressure dropped off in the third and Ellinbank went on to win the game. Drouin Maroon v Ellinbank Under 10 It was a fantastic game of junior football with both teams moving the ball up the ground with great team work.
