Labyrinth wish for Warragul park

-

Baw Baw Community Labyrinth group is hoping to establish a labyrinth on vacant land in Burke St Park, Warragul.

It is envisaged that the labyrinth will be the centrepiece, surrounded by beautiful landscaping, solar lighting, seats, signage and various art elements to enhance the aesthetic of the area.

As part of a unique grant “Pick My Project” process, Baw Baw Community Labyrinth will rely solely on community votes to gain funding.

“Pick My Project” has allocated $1 million to Gippsland projects. However, community votes will decide which projects receive funding ranging from $20,000 to $200,000.

Baw Baw Community Labyrinth said its project will reinvigorate the well-used Warragul Linear Arts Trail which was established 10 years ago. The project will also offer employment and job opportunities for many locals including artists, landscape designers, landscape workers, construction workers, engineers, parks and garden workers, concreters and nursery men.

Baw Baw Community Labyrinth group has partnered with Warragul Community House to establish this exciting project.

Labyrinths offer a form of walking meditation, inducing a feeling of peace and calm. People often confuse a maze with a labyrinth. Mazes, with all their dead-ends, are designed to get you lost but you will find yourself in a labyrinth.

They can be used by individuals, schools, kindergartens, people with special needs, walking groups, sporting clubs and tai chi and yoga groups.

The Baw Baw Community Labyrinth committee also hope to engage with young people such as the skate park users, Little Aths and the nearby soccer club.

“Pick My Project” applications have only just closed so stay tuned for details on how to vote for the labyrinth project in Warragul.
