Senior teams in premiership race

-

Discount the Warragul Industrials senior teams from the premiership race at your peril.

While the senior team is in the midst of a recent form slump, its best side is capable of matching any side in the competition.

Matches against Neerim-Neerim South at the weekend and Lang Lang to come this weekend have come at a good time, offering a chance to play themselves back into the same damaging form on display earlier this season.

The match against Catani will be key in hoes of a top three finish and double chance, before the home and away season ends with a fixture against a Nilma-Darnum side akso struggling with form and injuries.

The recruitment of Jack Blakey from Bunyip has proven a masterstroke.

Having moved forward he has been a relevation, his recent six goal haul against Poowong showing how dangerous he can be at his best.

Shane Brewster continues to regularly hit the scoreboard from across half forward, while Shane Ingham and Mitch Davies are also handy targets.

The midfield is balanced, led by Tye Holland who sets up attacks from the outside while Tyson Bale wins plenty of ball on the inside.

Will Jolley and Will Gibson are younger players who add to the mix.

Aside from an appearance from John Ikupu last season, the ruck has been problematic for the club in recent seasons but between Russell Ware, Rhett O’Hara and Davies they have the talls to keep the opposition honest.

New coach Joel Morgan leads a tight backline, supported by the likes of Ayden Mills and Michael Ablett, while Cooper Minichiello can be relied upon to find a target coming out of the defensive 50.

Across on the netball court, the A grade team may currently sit in fifth position but will be a big finals threat.

The perennial finalists will be looking to take the next step after coming close in recent attempts.

Stacey Lawry leads a well-balanced team from defence, through the mid court and into attack.
