Drouin netballers had a tough day against Traralgon with the highlight a 26goal win in the under 15s. A grade: Drouin 49 lost to Traralgon 68. The Hawks knew it would be a tough match and the Maroons proved just too strong on this occasion.

Ebony Mumford was a constant presence in defence for Drouin and drove the ball into attack brilliantly. She worked well with Jess Hedley who made a cameo appearance back in the maroon and gold.

Drouin fought valiantly to limit the impact of Traralgon’s height advantage which gradually took its toll.

It was another great contest between the two rivals and the scoreline didn’t reflect the quality of the game. Award: Eb Mumford. B grade: Drouin 37 lost to Traralgon 72. Drouin had a tough task to upset the ladder leaders.

Having to contend with hard one-on-one defence all over the court, Drouin’s young attack end were under pressure with every pass given and received.

When Drouin put in preliminary moves and moved the ball with speed, they were able to score more consistently.

Alana Rippon played a great second game for the day, working tirelessly in defence alongside Abbey Kingi. In attack, Alana stepped up showing great leadership in the absence of two senior attackers out with injury and illness.

Drouin will need to regroup this week against Leongatha. Award: Alana Rippon. C grade: Drouin 25 lost to Traralgon 38. This was a good test for Drouin (third) up against fellow finals contender Traralgon (second), but unfortunately Drouin fell short.

Drouin had a great start but couldn’t put together four consistent quarters. The Hawks had plenty of opportunities but need to improve on their execution and composure under pressure.

A highlight for Drouin was the defensive effort. Their pressure and work rate were relentless, resulting in numerous turnovers.

Lateisha Edwards in goal keeper continued her outstanding form, gaining crucial intercepts.

The Hawks were calm and patient in attack, working the ball into good shooting positions.

In the second quarter, the girls stopped taking their drives through in attack and got caught on the body. Defensively, they still created many turnovers, but some poor passing decisions proved costly.

The third and fourth quarters were outstanding in defence. Traralgon did not score for the first eight minutes of the third quarter.

Drouin finished the game with composure and confidence in the team’s ability and will come back fighting this weekend.

Drouin had a good win against Traralgon and it was a fantastic opportunity for some girls to experience playing in different positions. Bailey Fleming, Harri Parkinson and Lucy McKellar were terrific in defence, making it very difficult for the Traralgon goalers to capitalise.

Drouin still need to work on passing precision, but all girls are committed to improving this aspect of their game.

Brooke deRiter, Liv Konstanty and Ella Gown were strong in goals. Macy Newcombe, Ella East and Sabine Lieshout all worked hard in their nominated positions.

Awards: Harri Parkinson, Bailey Fleming and Lucy McKellar. Under 13s: Drouin 10 lost to Traralgon 43. This was an overall solid performance for the Hawks in the absence of two of their key players.

Drouin greatly improved on their last meeting with Traralgon, starting the game on fire.

After a stellar first quarter, Drouin’s scoring rate was still respectable in the second and third quarters. Unfortunately, they were unable to sustain their performance over the whole four quarters but there were plenty of positives.

Sidney Awty played her first game for Drouin, slotting into the line-up like a veteran. Montana Lewis also played a strong game in goal shooter, providing a great target in the goal circle.
