Students volunteer at Farm World
Agriculture students at Warragul Regional College were celebrated for volunteering at Farm World at a special assembly recently.
Many of the year 12 students, who had volunteered for many years, were also assisted by year nine students.
The event was also significant for the school, as it was the final year of involvement for Barry Perkin and his team after about 30 years of essentially organising the Animal Nursery along with Jill Bradford, who supplies most of the animals.
Barry and his wife Cheryl, along with Sue Jenkins, are all ex-staff of Warragul Regional College.
Agriculture studies teacher at Warragul Regional College Brett Smith said it was a particularly difficult year to call for volunteers, with the event falling over the Easter break.
“A number of those who hoped to attend found they could not due to becoming sick or other engagements arising, so from the planned for dozen we ended up with only five, four or three on some days,” he said. “This meant long hours with minimal breaks. “The weather on Sunday, April 15 was extremely challenging, being very wet and cold.”
Volunteers from Warragul Regional College included Tegan Blackstock, Channen Dare, Hannah Hedley, Jaide Larkman, Maddie McDonald, Sharni Miller, Annaleise Grist, Riley Kelly, Bree Miller and Chloe Scholz.
