Form says Gulls can win at Sale

-

Warragul should travel to Sale next Saturday with the confidence needed to keep winning and stay on course for a spot in the final “five”.

While last Saturday’s win over Maffra should give them confidence that they can also get over Sale the Gulls should look back a bit further – to the halfway point of the season.

Since in round 10 Warragul has won six of seven games, three of them against sides above them on the ladder – Moe, Traralgon and Maffra.

And in the previous encounter with Sale the Gulls went down by one point, inaccuracy near goals costing them a win.

They came through last Saturday’s game injury free so there won’t be any excuses that they are not primed for the contest.

Sale has a double chance in the finals guaranteed but will be eyeing the possibility of snatching top position if it can win the last two games.

Traralgon has a tough appointment at Maffra.

The Eagles rarely suffer back-to-back losses and are always hard to crack on their home turf.

The clash between the sides earlier in the season was a hard-fought and close contest; Maffra prevailing by 11 points.

Maffra looked to be storming towards another premiership when it reach the halfway poin t of the season undefeated.

However it has lost three of the seven games since - to Sale, Leongatha and Warragul.

Moe can ease some of the pressure on itself if it can topple bottom of the ladder Wonthaggi.

But the match is at Wonthaggi where the Power is always a tougher proposition.

The Lions have mixed some very good with some very average during the season and need to bounce back quickly, not just because it lost to Traralgon but doing so without giving much of a whimper.

Leongatha, coming off a shock defeat by Drouin, has the long trip to Bairnsdale to take on a side that took Sale down to the wire in its most recent game.

Drouin will try to follow up its Leongatha exploits against Morwell, at Morwell, to ensure they don’t risk dropping back to the wooden spoon position.

Morwell got home by eight points when the sides met earlier in the season.

Both sides will be fresh coming off the break last weekend and with confidence from their wins in the previous round.

Matches on Saturday at grounds of first named clubs:Morwell v. Drouin. Sale v. Warragul. Wonthaggi v. Moe. Bairnsdale v. Leongatha.

Maffra v. Traralgon.
