STRONG WINS FOR BOTH JUNIORS

-

Theoretically Warragul thirds can still make the finals after their strong win over Maffra on Saturday. But it is a big ask. They’d have to beat top “five” sides Sale and Bairnsdale in the next two rounds and hope for some other results to fall their way.

Irrespective of what eventually happens it has been a solid season for the Warragul team whose win on Saturday was number seven.

The Gulls controlled the game from the start and despite being pegged back a little in the third term ran away at the finish to score 910 to 4-2.

Eddie McGillivray, Ned Tworkowski, Thomas Baum, Ryley Green, Rhys Chambers and Curtis Warburton-Kift led the way.

McGillivray capped his fine game with three goals, Mason McGarrity kicked two and single goals came from Lachlan Wilson, Samuel Serramondi, Chambers and Connor Williamson.

The thirds’ game polished off a good morning for the Warragul juniors with the Under 16 fourths earlier proving far too good for Maffra, 713 to 1-4.

The win lifted them one spot on the ladder.

Matthew Boyles, Connor Ives, Jake Kallady, Josh Bloye, Charlie Stern and Mathew Pecoraro were the best on the day.

The goals were all singles, from Ives, Bloye, Damien Handley, Kallady, Micah Williames, Will Hatfield and Cooper Alger.
