Blues for live music lovers
Wollongong act “Dane Overton and the Joy Williams Band” will be one of five bands performing at the Trafalgar East Winter Blues on Saturday.
The 19th blues fest will kick off at 5.30pm and run until late at the Trafalgar East Hall.
Trafalgar East Hall president David Gridley said the quality line-up featured five bands all new to the district.
Of the bands, two are finalists in the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society Challenge of which the winner will represent Victoria in Memphis, USA.
“It’s a fantastic, really friendly good vibe,” said David. “It’s a blues fest but I wouldn’t say all the bands are strictly blues. It’s for lovers of any live music.”
“Dane Overton and the Joy Williams Band” is a three-piece who will bring their raw, dirty blues style to Trafalgar East.
Joining the band at the festival will be “Slats and the Thunderdogs”, “Electric Blues Collective”, “Rhythm X Revival” and “The Blue Lizards”.
Delivering honesty through rusty guitar tones and an acidic rasp, Dane Overton started working with The Joy Williams Band, made up of Darcy Wall on bass and Jak Wilson on drums, last year.
The band’s first single “Bones” is a bluesrock number worthy of a bar room brawl.
A wine-o’s ballad of heartbreak and demise, the single is a brutally honest account of a worst-case scenario relationship breakdown. From the solid, distorted opening baseline, the intentions of the band are immediately clear…this is raw, dirty blues coming straight from the heart.
Recently supporting such names as Phil Jamieson and Kim Churchill, punters can witness the band’s smokesoaked blues as they hit the road to showcase “Bones” before putting the finishing touches on their debut EP.
Food and free camping are available on site with BYO drinks.
