Students fundraise for Cambodia

-

Drouin Secondary College is running a monster raffle to raise funds for their overseas volunteering program, which will see students going to Cambodia in November.

Twenty-one students and three teachers will travel to Siem Reap to volunteer their time. They intend to build from scratch a library, funding the building of the structure, building shelves and outdoor reading tables.

They also plan to purchase 500 books in Khmer in the Tbeng province. They will also build a house from scratch with Volunteers Building Cambodia.

Drouin Secondary College teacher Gita Walker said the school has had wonderful support for the students from Drouin and District Community Bank, local business and the school community.

The students are traveling through Vietnam School Tours, with the main emphasis on making others’ lives better through volunteering.

Students will travel abroad for three weeks and most of the time will be working.

To have the funds for these projects, the DOVE Cambodia program is hoping to raise $15,000.

DOVE Cambodia is holding a monster raffle with 10 fantastic prizes. Prizes include a beautiful handmade Queen-size quilt made by “The Jasmine Girls” of Warragul, portable Flip and Jam speakers and seven other pamper hampers such as wine hamper, T2 tea hamper and even a pet hamper.

Tickets are available from the school. The raffle will be drawn on August 31 at 4pm.
