Wheely fundraiser for Scope

-

Clients of Scope took part in their own Ride 4 Kids to raise money the KIDS Foundation last week.

Inspired by a team that will set off on the 550km cycle challenge from Byron Bay to Noosa next week, locals formed their own team to cut laps around the Warragul Community Church grounds in a wheel-athon on Thursday afternoon.

Windy conditions didn’t deter them from motoring along on their bicycle, in their wheelchair or on foot to achieve as many laps as possible within the one-hour time limit.

Event organiser Narelle Maya said Scope clients had thrown their support behind the cause, assisting in preparing for the event.

“Over the past week we’ve been making signs and talking about what we’re doing,” she said.

“It’s a focus of helping other people in the community and receivers.”

Each participant made a donation to take part in the event and took part in a T-shirt design contest, with the winning entry to take pride of place on the Ride 4 Kids event.

Scope staff member Paul Hunt said it showed that its clients can have a different role to show than what we may automatically first think of.

“We know they have very high and complex needs, but that doesn’t preclude them from being able to function in a way that pushes the focus off that, where the needs of others are first most,” he said.

The Ride 4 Kids is aimed at raising awareness for the KIDS Foundation’s injury prevention and recovery programs, with money raised supporting the delivery of KIDS’ programs and services, specifically the Burn Survivors’ Network. giving, not just being
