GULLS NEED SOME LUCK

-

The equation for Warragul next Saturday is simple.

It must beat Bairnsdale at home in the final round and rely on Morwell causing an upset by defeating Traralgon.

The Gulls and Traralgon are level on 36 premiership points but Warragul can’t bridge the percentage gap if both it and Traralgon win – or both lose.

They will go into their respective games strong favourites although they won’t be taking things for granted.

Funny things happen in football and Morwell will give its best shot at trying not knock arch enemy Traralgon from the finals.

Warragul must go into its clash with Bairnsdale thinking that’s a possibility to happen.

Usually 10 wins for the season is enough to make the finals but the Gulls could miss out this year even with that number.

The top three are all level on 56 points – 14 wins from 17 games.

Leongatha and Sale will be waiting to see if Maffra trips up in what won’t be an easy game at Moe against the Lions that are also on their way to the finals.

Moe can’t improve its position.

It will be in the elimination final on Sunday week.

Second and third place Sale and Leongatha will clash at Leongatha on Saturday in a match both will be taking seriously.

They are likely to square off again, unless Maffra loses on Saturday, in the qualifying final that will kick off the final series. After successive wins Drouin has ensured it won’t be wooden spooners.

That will be Wonthaggi who the Hawks will battle at Drouin in their last game for the season.

Another win could even see Drouin climb one more rung on the ladder.

Final games in the home and away series at grounds of first named clubs are:Warragul Bairnsdale.
