Family history matters in Bunyip
More people are taking an interest in their family origins but finding a way to trace generations past can be difficult for those unfamiliar with where to start.
Ron Balzary of Bunyip said he was always interested in his family’s history and after the death of his parents wanted to delve deeper to ensure connections remained.
And most weeks he’s helping others from the Bunyip area research their own families’ histories.
Each Wednesday Ron can usually be found among the computers at Bunyip Community House pointing others in the right direction.
The weekly genealogy sessions have running at Bunyip for about five years.
Mr Balzary said when research family history it is important to “keep on the right track”.
Sometimes research through family members’ recollections or understanding of their predecessors is incorrect.
At the sessions at Bunyip Community House Mr Blazary helps people navigate their way through the popular Ancestry.com website.
He said the Church of Mormon records can also be extremely helpful.
Its records go back as far as the 1500s and through a branch of the church in Australia, Family Search, partners with most States to preserve historical information. been
