Cats Reserves finish on a high

-

A strong second half saw NeerimNeerim South finish its season on a high in the Ellinbank District Football League reserves, accounting for finals bound Catani.

Trailing by 11-points at the long break, the Cats booted six goals to two in the second half to win 8-5 (53) to 5-12 (42).

A run of five consecutive behinds in the third term didn’t help the Blues’ cause, seeing their 11-point lead turn into an 11-point deficit at the final change.

Mathew Cumming booted three goals, while James Maguire, Gabe Marsden, Kane Woolstencroft, Luke O’Donoghue, Mitchell Diston and Scott Muir also helped set up the victory.

Nicholas Cullen, Ben Ahern, Tom McLean, Ryan Lowe, Justin Evans and Lachlan Pratt (three goals) were the better players in a missed opportunity for the Blues.

Buln win low scorer

The Lyrebirds got a three goal head start on the Tigers, which ultimately proved the difference in a match that saw just three goals kicked after quarter time.

Matthew Burdett, Brent Eastwell, Sean Symes, Andrew Welfare, Bradley Trotman and Jarrod Castle helped the Lyrebirds make a strong start.

Hayden Diehl, Mathew Thompson, Dylan Diehl, Mark Hunter and Callum Soutar led a competitive effort from the Tigers.

Crows overcome slow start

Longwarry overcame a slow start to comfortably account for Ellinbank, 11-9 (75) to 5-4 (34).

Trailing by three points at quarter time, the Crows made use of the wind to boot five goals in the second quarter before again kicking away in the final term, booting the final four goals of the match.

Braydon Monroe, Ben McKenna, Dylan McLaren, Rick Salce, Ryan Wouters and Anthony Salce helped the Crows to a strong victory.

Ben Drew, Dale Armstrong, Chris Gardiner, Dylan Armour, Jayson Barwick and Justin Tylee led the way for Ellinbank.

Dusties continue charge

Warragul Industrials continued its charge towards finals with a comfortable victory over Nilma-Darnum, 12-23 (95) to 0-2 (2).

Only the day’s worst conditions slowed the scoring of the home side, who made hay while the sun shone in the second half with eight goals to run away with it.

The closing stages of the match were far from inspiring. Being a foregone conclusion, some players used the final term to simply practice their torpedo skills.

Joel Crowther booted four goals, while Matthew Gooden chipped in with three majors.

Scott Lindsay, Damien Mullen, Bradley Gorman, Murray Kingwill, Kyle Huggett and Brad Kingston were also prominent in a big win.

Robert Campbell, Joe Gibbons, Liam Van Eyk, Michael Buzasi, Thomas Williamson and Malcolm Hunter were the better players for the Bombers.
