Hillview extension well underway

Work is progressin­g well on an eight bed extension at Hillview Bunyip Aged Care.

The total cost of the extensions is $2.3 million which includes a grant of $1.5 million provided by the Health Department for the constructi­on of rooms to assist people with dementia.

Federal Member for McMillan Russell Broadben. has been instrument­al in assisting to secure the funding.

He has always held the Hillview Board of Management in high regard and in a speech in Parliament he once described the Hillview Board of volunteers as true heroes.

When completed the new extension will comprise 12 new rooms which will add an extra eight beds at Hillview for a total of 58 beds.

All rooms will feature wireless technology, high energy rating, larger than existing room and have ceiling tracks so that residents can age in place.

It also feratures three new communal areas with fire place, family room, TV lounge and new outside court yard area with a variety of uses.

There will be a substantia­l increase in staff in proportion with the increase in beds.

Hillview is the largest employer in Bunyip and the surroundin­g district.

Hillview chief executive Frank Hoff said the completion of the extensions would early next year.
