Young Hawks get win

-

Drouin’s under 15s now fly the flag for the Hawks, being the only team remaining in finals race after a win on Sunday.

A grade: 1st semi-final: Drouin 48 lost to Moe 67.

Drouin started extremely well, certainly having the upper hand early. Goalers Kylie Proctor and Christie Edwards were able to capitalise on some slick, open passages of play.

However, Drouin’s horror run of injuries continued with Kylie Proctor suffering an ankle injury. This had a significant impact on the attack end.

With limited movement came limited space and options in the goal circle, upon which Moe pounced.

Drouin worked very hard in defence but Moe remained composed under pressure and kept the scoreboard ticking over to open up a formidable lead by half-time.

Drouin brought young gun goaler Olivia Konstanty on in the third quarter and she played with maturity well beyond her years, handling the pressure superbly.

Racheal Morris in wing defence continued to get turnovers in the midcourt as the team battled on. However, they couldn’t bridge the gap.

Christie Edwards played a very smart game at goal attack until she too succumbed to a calf injury.

Moe were too strong for Drouin who now bow out of the finals series.

Awards: Racheal Morris and Edwards.

C grade: 1st semi-final: Drouin 33 lost to Wonthaggi Power 37.

This was a tight match throughout, with no more than a handful of goals separating the two teams. Christie

Both teams were tough at the ball and had their chances to gain the ascendancy.

Drouin welcomed back Emily Bethune to the team after illness but also had to play without star defender Monique Adrichem due to injury. After adjusting to the team changes, Drouin steadied in the second quarter, playing some great netball.

They came out firing in the third quarter to really threaten Wonthaggi as some fantastic midcourt pressure created turnovers for Drouin.

In the final quarter, it was game on. But when it counted Wonthaggi stood tall and finished off the better team.

Awards: Lateisha Edwards and Georgia Henderson.

Under 15s: 1st semi-final: Drouin 45 defeated Maffra 25.

Drouin really hit back strongly after defeat in the qualifying final. They were out to prove that they were capable of a much better performance, and they did that superbly.

Maffra tried valiantly to limit Drouin’s scoring rate, but Drouin was focused and disciplined which gave possession and ultimately, scoring opportunities.

In defence, Ella Gown was rock solid, rebounding strongly and sending Drouin back into attack on numerous occasions. In attack, Olivia Konstanty was smart with the ball and accurate at goal. She combined well with Brooke deRiter who was strong at goal shooter.

They will take on Bairnsdale again in the preliminary final with improved confidence and momentum.

Awards: Ella Gown and Olivia Konstanty.
