Gulls out after one-goal loss

-

It was a heartbreaking onegoal loss for Warragul in B grade on Sunday.

B grade: 1st semi-final: Warragul 45 lost to Morwell 46.

The girls were ready to give it all they had and determined to come out with a win.

The Gulls were up against a Morwell side they had lost to by six goals early in the season and drew with later in the year.

Both teams were fighting to keep their place in the 2018 finals series, with the loser being eliminated.

The Gulls started the game fast, at times playing to Morwell’s game pace. This was a huge factor in Morwell’s six-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.

After speaking about playing their game and setting their pace, the Gulls managed to come back in the second quarter. Settling into the game, they fought back to trail 20-21 at half-time.

The Gulls fought hard to keep up with Morwell and, at times, put major pressure on their players, resulting in numerous changes from the Morwell side. The finished the third quarter just four goals behind.

Warragul’s defensive pressure started to pay off in the fourth quarter. They got ahead at times, playing a goal-for-goal game. However, the Gulls ended up being defeated by one goal.

The club is extremely proud of its B grade side and are excited to see what the 2019 season brings for the Gulls.
