Warragul win croquet opener

Warragul hosted Wonthaggi 1 following a first-round bye in Gippsland golf croquet pennant.

On a perfect day for croquet, scores were level after second round at four-all.

Warragul pulled away in the doubles, winning five games to one to win on the day nine games to five, 89 hoops to 68.

Russ Marriott won his first singles over Sue Cartwright 7/2, but lost 6/7 to Paul Andrews.

Tony Butterworth defeated Cartwright 7/4 but lost to Andrews 6/7.

Colin Walker lost to Ruth Cashin 4/7 but won 7/4 against Ray Ogle.

Paul Simmons won 7/3 over Ogle but lost 4/7 to Cashin.

Drouin in form

Drouin continued its winning way in both golf and association croquet when both teams played away to Leongatha.

Michael Fry starred again in golf croquet, winning all five games two weeks in succession.

Kelvin Marriott won four of his five games, after having to concede an extraordinary 27 extra shots for the match in a valiant effort.

Vicky Rogers lowered her handicap from 11 to 10 during the doubles games.
