Prepare for summer with free green waste disposal

-

Residents across Baw Baw Shire will have access to free green waste disposal this month to help residents prepare their properties for the upcoming fire season.

Selected transfer stations across the shire have been designated to receive the green waste.

Mayor Joe Gauci said it was a great opportunity for all residents to do some outdoor spring cleaning before the warmer weather arrived.

“Regardless of whether you live in-town or more rurally, reducing vegetation around the home is one of the most important ways to reduce the risk of fire.

“We’re pleased to offer this free service to our community and strongly encourage everyone to get outside and rid their properties of unnecessary green waste,” he said. Free green waste disposal will be accepted at: Neerim South transfer station - Sunday, October 14 from 10am to 4pm;

Lardner transfer station – Sunday, October 21 from 10am to 4pm; and,

Erica transfer station – Sunday, October 21 from noon to 4pm.

The free disposal is limited to three cubic metres per household.

The free drop-off is available to all residents, both owners and tenants.

Bookings are not required, but residents are required to present proof of residency identification such as a current driver’s license or rates notice.

The green waste must be delivered in residential vehicles and trailers. Commercial vehicles will be charged at the standard rate.

Green waste must be separated from other waste or it will be charged at the standard rate.
