Lock motorcars

-

The act of locking a vehicle usually only takes the push of a button. However, police pleas to “lock your cars” continue to be ignored.

Acting senior sergeant Jason Dastey said, “people just won’t lock their cars”.

With cash, bank cards and personal documents amongst items commonly stolen, he said victims often face a lot of stuffing around “for something that’s pretty easy to prevent”.

An example is the theft of a handbag from a vehicle in Longwarry Rd, Drouin on Friday night. The vehicle was parked in a driveway and possibly left unlocked. The handbag containing personal items, bank cards and keys was stolen between 8pm and 9.15pm.

A witness reported seeing a male carrying the victim’s handbag. When approached, he ran off. He was described as about 165cm tall, medium build, aged 15 to 20 years old, possibly of Aboriginal appearance, short hair and clean shaven. He was wearing black clothes.

In a separate incident, a black pencil case wallet was stolen from a vehicle parked in Hunter Close, Drouin on Saturday night.

The theft occurred from a black Holden Captiva between Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7am. It is believed the front passenger window was left slightly down.

The wallet contained personal identification and bank cards. Those cards have since been used three times at United petrol station in Drouin. Police are currently reviewing footage and urged the offender to hand themselves in.
