Melissa King is garden guru
Gardening expert for the Garden and Home Expo will be Melissa King.
Melissa will have two demonstrations each day with talks on the main stage in Baw Baw Pavilion. Her topics will be Spring garden projects and growing a feast of vegetables.
Melissa will be giving lots of gardening hints. Take a seat at the main stage area and put your feet up for a while and listen to Melissa, the garden guru for this year. Melissa will be on stage at 11am and 1.30pm on Saturday and 11am and 1.15pm on Sunday.
Melissa has gardening in her blood. She grew up playing in her grandparent’s native plant nursery and at 15 started working weekends in a garden centre, which fuelled her love of all things green.
She then completed a degree in horticulture and carved a career in gardening media becoming a popular face on gardening and lifestyle television shows, as well as a well-known and respected writer, author and speaker.
She worked alongside Peter Cundall on ABC’s Gardening Australia and combined her love of gardens, food and travel as one of the hosts of travel series Guru`s Explore.
She transformed front yards in channel 9’s make-over series Battlefronts, hosted the garden segment on Chanel 10`s fun morning show ‘The Circle’ and inspired people of all ages to get out into the garden on Foxtel’s Garden Angels. These days Melissa stars in The Garden Gurus on channel 9 and is proud to call herself a “Gardenette.”
With two young boys of her own, Melissa wants every child to get a bit of dirt under their fingernails and experience the thrill of growing their own food.
She’s passionate about garden history, potted gardens, kids gardening, and growing edibles. Melissa’s book ‘Garden Feast’ is about growing and cooking fruit and vegetables with old-fashioned flavour.
