Smash hit musical to deliver

-

A committed local cast will deliver smash hit musical “RENT” at the Warragul Exhibition Hall in just three weeks.

Having rehearsed since February and taking date and venue changes in their stride, the passionate cast is ready to hit the stage.

Off The Leash Theatre are seeing strong ticket sales, particularly for the Friday and Saturday night shows, ahead of the five-show season starting on Thursday, October 25.

Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, RENT follows a year in the life of a group of friends struggling to make it in the big city. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts, against a backdrop of the 1990s AIDS epidemic, provides the narrative thread for this ground-breaking musical.

With an inspirational message of joy and hope in the face of fear, this timeless celebration of friendship and creativity is still a relevant story for a modern audience.

The Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning musical will come to Warragul from the creative team of director Todd Miller, musical director Esther White and choreographer Rachel O’Dwyer.

The 19-person cast is a mix of local faces as well as those from Pakenham, Berwick and other regions.

The leads are Corey Bruerton as Mark, Daragh Wills as Roger, David Lamb as Tom Collins, John Molden as Benny, Dan McPherson as Angel, Meg Watson-Jinnette as Mimi, Michaela Philp as Maureen and Brodie Dorling as Joanne.

The ensemble are Tracie McDonald, Tammy Tily, Ali Dun, Emillie King, Lea Naismith, Louise Dower, Rhiannan Tones, Peter Larsen, Coby Gregg and Adrian Darakai.

RENT will be performed on Thursday, October 25 at 8pm; Friday, October 26 at 8pm; Saturday, October 27 at 2pm and 8pm; and Sunday, October 28 at 4pm.

Due to the show being relocated to the Warragul Exhibition Hall from the not yet completed West Gippsland Arts Centre, ticket prices have been reduced to $38 for adults, $33 for concession and $30 for students.

For bookings, contact the West Gippsland Arts Centre box-office on 5624 2456 or visit wgac.org.au.
