Bunyip kick start season

- By Joel Batson

Division 3

Bunyip 5/219 d Western Park 75 Bunyip has kickstarted their re-entrance to division three with a thumping victory over reigning premier Western Park.

Coach Tyler McMillan marked his return to the club with a typically blistering 80 not out after two early wickets off the bowling of Kenny Lindsay (2-52) put the Bulls in early disarray.

McMillan was simply too good, however, and partnerships with Peter Duffus (48) and James McKellar (48 not out) lifted his side to an imposing 5-219 off their allotted overs.

In reply the Warriors simply had no answers for the Bulls quicks, recruit Stacey Best (5-30) destroying the Parkers middle order, while the McConnell brothers picked up four between them to confirm a huge 144 run victory.

Hawks win first match

Drouin 6/193 d Buln Buln 8/158 Solid batting partnerships were the foundation for Drouin at the Recreation Reserve, as numerous contributors gave the Hawks win number one for the season.

Jude Fernando at the top of the order showed why he’s one of the best batsmen in the division with a typically fluid 69, while efforts from the lower order including Sam Barwick (31*) and Campbell Jolly (30) lifted Drouin from 3-41 to 6-193 at the close of their innings.

Young star Brendan Wall was the pick of the bowlers with 2-14, however the lack of contributors with the ball was their undoing.

In reply James Fowler (50) showed fine form with a hard-hitting knock, however apart from Lachlan Axford (31 not out) at the end, Buln couldn’t get the bowling of Ben Dixon, Nicholas Caddy and Gavin Mills away, as they all picked up two wickets and a 35-run victory.

Easy win for Jindivick

Jindivick 8/218 d Yarragon 112 Jarrat Eastburn’s 71, coupled with thirties from Dave Nobels and Peter Galvin, has guided Jindivick to an easy victory over Yarragon.

The trio sent the ball to all parts on the Kydd-Park Reserve as the Jumping Jacks fired on all cylinders to the tune of a mammoth 8218 off their 40 overs.

For Yarragon, Liam Smith-Butterworth and Derek Adikane each picked up two wickets, however 218 wasn’t a score they’d hope to give away.

It proved to be too big a mountain to climb and although John Allsop made a sensational 62, which was to be expected, the Panthers simply didn’t have enough contributors for the day and were rolled for 112.

The Jumping Jacks have Phill Young to thank for the wicket-taking pressure, as his 4-24 destroyed the middle order and kick-started his team’s season.

Titans team all contribute

Neerim District 8/100 lost to Garfield-Tynong 5/171

A full range of contributors was the mantra for Garfield-Tynong as they completed a 71run victory over Neerim District.

Batting first, the Titans essentially had all batsmen contribute as six batsmen passed 20, with notable scores being made by Daniel Savage (37) and Glen Johnston (29) through the middle order.

While John Fleming picked up respectable figures for the Stags, the score of 5-171 given up seemed too much and so it proved, as Neerim limped their way to 8-100 off their 40 in reply.

Garfield-Tynong have early wickets from recruit APK Rangjith (3-14) and the reliable Daniel Savage (3-17) to thank for that. They put the pressure on the young Stags early and simply never let up.
