Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Division 2

- By Joel Batson

Drouin 6/161 def Hallora 110 A terrific all-round performance has seen Drouin brush off Hallora in comfortable fashion.

Batting first on a wearing Bellbird Park wicket Hallora started on top with an early run out of Justin Vanderzalm for five, however an 81run stand from Bailey Osseweyer (21) and John Perry (51) swung the momentum back in the Hawks control.

A collapse of 4-13 left Drouin in a spot of bother coming into the latter stages, however David Sharpe’s return to the crease pushed Drouin up to 6-161, as he peeled off a quickfire 34 despite the best efforts of Tom Williams (2-13) and Tim McMahon (2-28).

Hallora were simply never in the chase when play resumed. Charlie Wans (3-20) destroyed the top order early and was ably supported by his young compatriots in Jack McConville (227) and Regan Hodge (2-24), who left the Kangas reeling at 6-42 heading into drinks.

Alex Henshall (27*) and Dave Youlden (26) saved face for the away side with some solid hitting towards the end but Hallora’s fate was sealed, and they were soon all out for 110.

Tyrone dominating

Warragul 2/194 lost to Garfield-Tynong 8/303 Has there been a more dominant start to a division two season than that of AKV Tyrone?

After peeling off a century in his debut game for Garfield-Tynong in round one, Tyrone has backed up his performance with a stunning 153 as the Titans destroyed a young Warragul side at the weekend.

Coming in after the loss of Chad McKie in the first over of the innings at the hands of Tyler Constantine (2-58), Tyrone went on the attack, decimating the bowlers’ confidence with 21 boundaries and six sixes in his fantastic knock.

While performances from Tim Whitten (343) and Jack Buckingham (2-53) attempted to stymie the Titans’ momentum, Josh Horsburgh (51), Tate Burgmann (26*) and Pete Davidson (22) were able to apply scoreboard pressure as the away side amassed a mammoth 8-303 off their 40 overs.

In reply, Warragul- through Tyler Constantine (84) and Josh Wright (71*) managed to hit six sixes between them as they took advantage of St. Pauls’ small boundaries and managed to counter the Titans innings to some extent with a magnificent 146 run stand.

However, it was all in vain as they finished on 2-194 off their allotted overs, as the Titans won comfortably thanks to their outstanding batting performance.
