Bowling in the rain at Drouin

Drouin bowlers got through most games despite the rain on Saturday but recorded just one win.

Whilst the games played at Drouin were completed, the division four team playing away at Yallourn had a washout.

Division one: Drouin 0/75 lost to Morwell 20/108.

David McIlfatric­k, Col Finger, John Leighton and Adam Proctor lost to N. Sell’s team 18/24. Ron Brodie, Matthew Long, Toby Wallace and Gary Johnson drew with S. Bhatti’s team 25/25. Samantha Atkinson, Les Firth, Dennis Throup and Matthew Schreyer lost to R. Gadsby’s team 18/32. Graeme Aubrey, Dale Hendrick, Sheryl Atkinson and Mark Atkinson lost to D. Cook’s team 14/26.

Division three: Drouin (2) 4/89 lost to Morwell (2) 16/97.

Laurie Innes, N. Stoney, Maureen Leighton and Arthur Moore defeated I. Auld’s team 21/20. Bob Cole, John Bulmer, Col Jeffrey and Andrew Kidd defeated R. Anstey’s team 24/23. Don Mowat, Chris Brownlee, Phil Jarred and David Tayles lost to G. Berryman’s team 23/26. Margaret Schofield, Robbie Proctor, Tim Anderson and Noel Rubenstein lost to L. Knowles’ team 21/28.

Division four: Drouin (3) washout against Yallourn North.

Division six: Drouin (4) 10/50 defeated Thorpdale (2) 0/40.

Jim Purvis, Barb Watts, Ian Haughton and Les Gouge defeated Bob O’Connell 25/24.

Thorpdale was digging a big hole for Drouin and led by 13 shots, 19/6. Then came the big fight back as Jim, Barb, Ian and Les scored 19 shots to five in a stunning finish to get home by two shots on the last end.

Max Hine, Roger Kennett, Maureen McMillan and Tom Lawler defeated G.

Garfield Bowling Club had the complete mixed grill in round three of West Gippsland Bowls Division pennant with two wins, one draw and one loss.

Division two: Garfield defeated Warragul (1) 94/85.

The club’s first side was home alone, winning three rinks to score a nine-shot overall win.

The team of Don Knight, Rod James, Alan White and skip John Majkut trailed all day. However, with a rally at the end of the game, they squeaked in to win 23/22.

Steve Whyte’s team of Gary Helmore, Gary Payne and Steve Bassed had the opposition’s measure. They were just in front all day, coming home with a 23/19 win.

The team of Stuart Gemmill, Joe Lenders and Peter Lieshout, skipped by Tom Cleary, trailed early but stormed home to lose by only two shots, 24/26.

Les Pumphrey, Bob Lamport, Nick Henwood and skip Shane Oliver scored six shots in the first two ends. They kept that lead throughout to win 24/18.

There were congratula­tions to the division two side on their first win for the season.

Division four: Garfield (2) washout against Traralgon (4).

The only thing able to stop the division four side so far this year has been the weather.

The rain on Saturday caused all play to be abandoned on the grass greens at Traralgon, so they had to settle for a draw. Play didn’t even start.

Division six: Garfield (3) lost to Warragul (5) Savige’s team 25/16.

Tom Lawler’s team finished a couple of ends before. They won 25/16 in a good team effort.

Division four had a win at Yinnar whilst the two divisions playing at Drouin were called off due to rain.

Division one: Drouin washout Traralgon RSL.

Division three: Drouin (2) washout against Moe (2).

Division four: Drouin (3) 10/43 defeated Yinnar (2) 0/34.

Kath Dixon's team of Pat Yeo, Joan Lang and Maureen Brunet won 20/18. Judith Stoney's team of Lorraine Kinrade, Bryan Thorpe and Ian Haughton won 43/34.
