Community people wanted for Longwarry rec reserve

-

Community members have been invited to get involved in the management of the Longwarry Recreation Reserve.

The Longwarry Recreation Reserve features multi-purpose clubrooms, football and cricket facilities and netball courts. Regular user groups and casual hirers take advantage of the facilities, including commercial grade kitchen and meeting rooms.

The Bandicoot Walking Track also forms part of the reserve and is a significant habitat and wildlife corridor for the Southern Brown Bandicoot.

The Reserve and walking track are managed by the Longwarry committee of management, comprising representatives from the community and user groups of the reserve who are appointed for a three-year term by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) on behalf of the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change.

DELWP regional manager land and built environment Carole Macmillan said the Longwarry Recreation Reserve is an important focal point, meeting place and activity centre.

“We need to form a committee of management to ensure the site can continue to be available for community use,” she said.

“Committee members make a significant contribution to the management of reserves like Longwarry Recreation Reserve, maintaining and improving them for the benefit of the local and wider community.

“Committee members also play a crucial role within the local community and provide an important link between the community and the department.

“DELWP will assist the committee to meet its legislative obligations, and work closely with members to assist with compliance, tenures, risk management, and project management as required.”

If you’re interested in nominating to be a member of the Longwarry committee of management or would like more information, contact Angie Hughes at the Traralgon DELWP office on 5172 2111 or via email angenita.hughes@delwp.vic.gov.au.
