Longwarry win big at home

Longwarry’s top team won all four rinks for a convincing 63-shot win at home on Saturday.

Its division six team was at home to Garfield and recorded a comfortabl­e 20-shot win.

Division two: Longwarry 20/130 defeated Traralgon (3) 0/67.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated T. James’ team 39/12.

Longwarry got off to a flying start and led 11/0 after four ends. Keeping the pressure on, they conceded only seven ends to record a great 27-shot win. Kenneth Towt won player of the week.

Glenn Pask, Lloyd Maisey, Hank Metselaar and Slim Eastwell (skip) defeated M. Cumming’s team 24/20.

The “Dream Team” had the band back together for the first time this year. They were pushed all day but just kept in front for a fourshot win.

Brian Hennessy, Grant Pask, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) defeated R. Davey’s team 38/9.

Longwarry who went into the break leading 15/8. They dominated the second half, only allowing Traralgon one shot to record a 29-shot win in a great team effort. They also won best overall rink.

Simon Counsel, Mark Serong, John McCarthy and Ken White (skip) defeated K. Garry’s team 29/26.

After 10 ends, Longwarry was trailing by 11 shots and it looked like a big defeat was on the cards. To their credit, they turned it around and picked up 16 shots in the next six ends to take the lead.

The remainder of the game was tight with Longwarry picking up three on the last end to win by that margin in a fantastic match.

Division six: Longwarry 9/55 defeated Garfield 1/35.

Garfield Bowling Club faced local rivals and a big road trip in round four of West Gippsland Bowls Division this week.

Division two: Garfield lost to Traralgon (2) 71/112.

The side travelled all the way down to Traralgon to play against their top division two side. Unfortunat­ely, the result was the same as the journey – all rinks went down to Traralgon.

The team of Don Knight, Rod James, Alan White and skip John Majkut trailed all day, losing 11/32.

Steve Whyte’s team of Gary Helmore, Gary Payne and Steve Bassed led for most of the game, just falling short with a 23/26 loss.

The team of Stuart Gemmill, Joe Lenders and Peter Lieshout, skipped by Tom Cleary, trailed early, but rallied to be leading after 20 ends. They stalled in the run home to lose 18/21.

Les Pumphrey, Colin Mills, Bob Lamport and skip Shane Oliver also struggled to make an impression, going down 33/19. A tough day but better to come. Division four: Garfield (2) defeated Yallourn North 92/87.

With two rinks winning and two rinks losing, the home team won overall by five shots.

The team of Phil Humphries, Brian Fox, Barry Johnson and skip Maureen Lamport were outdone all day, eventually losing 18/32.

Adrian Helmuth, Jan Johnson, Ray Biffin and skip Wes Goodman charged out of the boxes to have a good lead. However, a little snooze after the break allowed their opponents to almost catch up. Fortunatel­y, they woke up in time to seal the deal with a strong win, 25/17.

Graeme Burton’s team of Lex Taylor, Barrie

Peter Smethurst, Ron Sutton, Brian Mason and Gerry Wakefield (skip) tied with Judy Pocklingto­n’s team 22/22.

In a tight game throughout, this game ended in a fitting tie.

Sharon Twite, Eddie Bluck, Frank Hone and Brian Mason (skip) defeated Damian Brick’s team 33/13.

With the “Hogg” directing the ship, Longwarry played well as a team. They increased the lead throughout the day to record a great 20-shot win.

Division four: Longwarry lost to Warragul 31/42. Eddie Bluck, Lorraine Bluck, Eileen Sparks and Judy Eastwell (skip) lost to G. Atkinson’s team 10/33. Gerry Wakefield, Peter Smethurst, Lorna Sheedy and Vicki Hanks (skip) defeated S. Cedye’s team 21/9.
