OTL has three shows ahead
With the ferocity and revelations of the #metoo campaign still resounding across the world, Off The Leash Theatre company will view the world from a female perspective in 2019.
“Women writers, stories about women, strong roles for women, perhaps directed by women,” said artistic director Jeannie Haughton. “Off The Leash always seeks quality and balance in their productions, so of course there will be men on stage and in the creative and productions teams.”
To get the season rolling, an information night for the 2019 season will be held in the “OTL Dog Box” near West Gippsland Arts Centre on Thursday at 7.30pm.
Off the Leash (OTL) is seeking experienced creative and production people. It is also a great chance for newcomers to join in and learn how the Drouin-based company create their amazing shows.
Building on their reputation as quality theatre makers and coming out of a tremendously successful season of musical “RENT” - during which the sell-out audiences were transported into the world of tenement squatters in New York City during the early AIDS epidemic OTL will produce three shows next year.
In early April, a co-production with West Gippsland Arts Centre will feature Haughton’s new work “Finding A Dodgy Potato”. While the title is causing some perplexed looks and is still under consideration, the work has been developed across many years.
A writer’s obsession with the past, with its imagined characters and stories, is challenged by her friend who feels matters of the present are way more important…until the telling of the stories begins to bring history to life for her as well.
“The Female of the Species” is an Australian favourite by Joanna Murray Smith, and is loosely based around the time Germaine Greer was handcuffed to her desk during a home invasion. It is a biting and hilarious look at celebrity and feminism.
“Love, Loss and What I Wore” by Nora and Delia Ephron, adapted from a book by Ilene Beckermann, is a funny and poignant revelation of women’s lives with stories revealed through the clothes they have worn throughout their lives.
Anyone interested in any of these shows should attend the information night or call 0438 222 138 for further information.
