Yarragon 134 defeated by Buln Buln 236 and 5/114
Buln Buln has made it two wins in a row with a convincing victory over Yarragon at the weekend.
Defending a commanding 236, the Lyrebirds, through experienced campaigner Bryce Monahan, took control of the contest early, removing Jake Borsato, Brock Glover and Ashley Smith before drinks to leave the Panthers’ struggling on 3-31.
Gayan De Silva (31) made a brisk 31 to put the pressure on the Buln attack, however both he and Nuwan Perera were removed in quick succession as Monahan ran rampant.
Gamini Kumara (61) attempted to steady the sinking ship as he has many times in the past, however wickets kept falling at regular intervals with key wickets being taken by Jackson Noonan (2-31) and Max Kelly (1-6 off 9.2 overs) to halt any progress for Yarragon.
Once Gamini was removed by Monahan (545) to complete the paceman’s five wicket haul, it was essentially curtains for the Panthers and they were eventually dismissed for 134, 102 runs short of Buln.
In the remaining 22 overs of the day, Daniel Hamilton (69 off 43) returned to form with a swashbuckling innings, while Connor Wyatt (2-19) claimed two wickets as Buln finished a very successful day on 5-114.
McGillivray comes of age
Drouin 198 defeated by Jindivick 6/207 Eddie McGillivray has come of age, producing an outstanding innings to give Jindivick a massive victory over rivals Drouin.
With Jindivick resuming on 1-59 in reply to Drouin’s 198, it was Drouin who took early control proceedings as Simon Gardiner (3-71) and Dale Weller (1-65) removed Craig Boswell, Greg Interlandi and Steve Dillon early in the day to reduce the Jumping Jacks to 4-90 during the morning session.
With their side teetering on the brink, McGillivray was joined by Hussain Ali and together they pushed their side closer to victory.
Ali’s experience was crucial, however when he was removed by Brad Glover (2-26) and Dananja Madushanka dismissed shortly after, the game was once again on a knife’s edge at 6-153.
McGillivray fulfilled the talent he, and those around the league have seen in his junior days, as he warded off the most experience bowling attack in the league in fine fashion.
Along with Jarratt Eastburn (17*), McGillivray showed his maturity in guiding the away side to a famous victory- as he finished 70 not out, with Jindivick winning by four wickets shortly after the tea break.
