Inspiring and uplifting performance
A big congratulations to all involved in the up grade of our beautiful theatre here in Warragul. It is certainly a crowning glory in our shire.
Last Sunday I had the pleasure of attending the combined a performance of West Gippsland Chorale, Latrobe Chorale, Heidelberg Chorale Society and Heidelberg Choral Society Orchestra.
It was a most inspiring and uplifting performance. It was a truly professional performance by all involved.
Symphonic Adiemus by Karl Jenkins was a real surprise package. A lively, varied program which included spectacular percussion involvement. I am sure this will be performed in many more concerts.
If you missed this performance you missed a real musical highlight.
How lucky are we to have witnessed this event. Congratulations to all involved!

Michael Fozard, Trafalgar disregard for huge areas of native bush. The same corporation has been given the go ahead by government to clearfell the rainforest next to Noojee.
The reasons not to log the bush next to Noojee keep mounting and include:
1. VicForests’ own social impact assessment recommended against logging because of the long term economic damage it is likely to cause the town.
2. Numerous expert opinions state that logging the area will increase the bushfire risk for the town for the next 50 years
3. A community survey showed that neither Noojee residents, nor shire residents want a coupe next to Noojee.
4. Most of the logged bush will be turned to paper and the profits go to Japan
5. Threatened species live in the bush earmarked for logging. Those animals will die and species extinction will be hastened.
It is astounding that Baw Baw shire is sttanding by and letting Noojee suffer such long term damage.
Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood and our council need to speak out now to try to save Noojee from the ravages of VicForests before it is too late Janet Wylie, Drouin
What's going on with the Baw Baw Shire and planning permits?
It seems that some people can just build whatever they like and then be given a ‘retrospective’ permit from the shire.
The honest ratepayers apply for a permit, pay a fee then wait for the permit to be approved over some months..
Not just one ‘retrospective permit’ but multiple times on the one block of land. The Shire is unable to say how many times they will give out the ‘retrospective’ permit on the one block of land.
The problem with this type of development is that you could get houses built on land that has issues inherent to that area. For example steep terrain or flood plain.
The ‘retrospective’ permit takes on a whole new life of its own, removing the rights of neighbours to highlight issues that can affect their business.
This is not fair to other ratepayers doing the honest approach to permits. The mentality of just put up your building, hope no one notices, or if it is bought to the attention of the shire, hope they will not act, or give out the retrospective permit - and move forward. One law for some and none for others.
