Triathlon season heating up

-

Triathletes welcomed the start of summer with an impressive turn out for the Wild Dog Triathlon at the weekend, with numbers in both the senior and juniors races doubling.

WDTC pups enjoyed the sunshine, adding some fun to the event with water soakers to help cool down as they crossed the finish line.

Harry Graafsma led in the six laps, Andrew Thompson was first in the five laps, Jacob Langelaan crossed the line first in the five laps while Richard Patrickson led in four laps. Harper McNair was first in the juniors one-lap.

Seniors racing saw some sibling rivalry in the short event, with Ashlee Diston holding onto a three minute lead over brother Mitchell.

First timer this season Ben Patrick worked hard trying to catch last year’s WDTC champion Paul Taylor, managing to cross the line in an impressive second place.

This week’s event again saw some new seniors join WDTC and welcome back some previous triathletes out for their event of the season.

All race times for junior and senior events are published at the website www.wilddogtriclub.org.au.

Saturday will be the last event for 2018 with the annual Christmas break-up race. Fancy dress bikes and seasonal costumes encouraged for all ages.

The 2019 WDTC events will recommence on Saturday January 12.

The WDTC is busy planning for the snap community tri to be held on February 9. The community tri is a great opportunity for anyone over the age of 12 years to enter their first triathlon, with the event being open to both individuals and teams. Community tri is an access for all ability event.

WDTC junior 5-12 years event races commence at 4.30pm followed by seniors at 5pm on Saturdays at Bourke St precinct in Warragul.

The club strongly encourages early arrival to allow for registration, set-up and briefing. Without volunteers the WDTC events would not happen so assistance on the day is always welcome.

All are welcome to come to the Saturday afternoon Wild Dog Triathlon Club events, with details on event dates, membership and race details located on facebook or visit the website www.wilddogtriclub.org.au.
