Sunday games rescheduled

-

Contrasting conditions saw representative matches on Sunday rescheduled.

Buln Buln will have to wait until January 13 for a shot at their first Kookaburra Cup after Sunday’s match was abandoned due to the condition of the pitch at Morwell Recreation Reserve.

Formely known as the Premier Cup, the competition takes the two most successful teams in one-day cricket from across all Gippsland Associations to play off for the bragging rights as the best one-day team in Gippsland.

Buln Buln, who finished runner up in 2012/13, will be aiming to become the first Warragul District Cricket Association side to take the cup since Trafalgar, who have since moved to the Latrobe Valley competition, defeated Sale-Maffra side Bundalaguah in 2009/10.

Yarragon could unofficially lay claim to 2010/11 title as the higher qualifier, given their final against Orbost was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Hallora (1999/2000) and Drouin (2014/15) are among other local clubs to have finished runner up.

Morwell will also be shooting for their first Kookaburra Cup in the decider.

Meanwhile, the under 21 Statewide Cup was also abandoned due to a soaking wicket at Windy Hill.

WDCA cricketers Sam Whibley and James Williams are among the Gippsland Pride squad that will contest the final, which will be rescheduled to a yet to be decided date in January.
