Western Park well-placed
Division 5
by Adam Johnson
Western Park are well placed to take the points after dismissing Yarragon on day one of their clash, while Drouin will need to work hard after posting a modest total against form side and ladder leader Garfield-Tynong.
Graziotin breaks through
Drouin 9/169 (cc) vs Garfield-Tynong A late collapse of 6/35 has left Drouin with a below par total to defend against ladder leader Garfield-Tynong.
Choosing to bat first the Hawks were in trouble early before a steadying 88-run partnership from Brian McCarty (26) and Remo Graziotin (65) pushed the score into triple figures.
Danger man Brad Cross (17) made a good start before letting one through the gate and a handy cameo from Mick Caddy (16*.) ensured the Titans were kept in the field for the full allotment of overs. Jason Ridler proved almost unplayable, tearing through the visitor’s top order to finish with 4/18 off 12 overs.
Darren Vandenberge provided ample support to finish with 3/41 off 13.
Warriors in top
Yarragon 10/132 vs Western Park 1/33 Western Park are on top in their clash with Yarragon after bowling the Panthers out for 132.
The home side started the day well with Dale Norton (49) cashing in on a dropped chance off the first ball of the innings, punishing the bowlers with some aggressive batting that saw him record three fours and four sixes.
Persistence paid off however for JP D’Amico as the wily seamer eventually got his man. D’Amico toiled manfully to finish the day with 3/53, bowling unchanged in a 17 over spell.
Carlo Ierfone (19) offered stern resistance and with some late hitting from Ben Fleming (12) and Jarrod Randell (19), the home side at least made it to triple figures.
Sam Laffy was the pick of the bowlers, bamboozling the batsmen with his left arm darts to return career best figures of 6/31 off 17 overs.
In reply, the Warriors didn’t make it through the 15 overs completely unscathed and will resume on 1/33 with Raman Gautam (10*) and Elliot Kennedy (3*) to take up the chase.
