94 oppose subdivision

-

There has been a spate of objections to a planned residential subdivision on Warragul’s southside.

Baw Baw Shire has received 94 submissions objecting to the development in the form proposed in a planning application by WKR Developments.

The company sought approval to create 267 residential lots on a 21.7 hectare site east of Warragul-Korumburra Rd and just south of the roundabout at the intersection of Landsborough and Bona Vista Rds, Howitt St and the on and off ramps to Princes Freeway.

A group of residents of a neighbouring estate accessed from Bona Vista Rd late last year placed a full page advertisement in The Gazette outlining their opposition to the plan although acknowledging development of the site “was inevitable”.

The main concerns raised at the time related to the staged development starting in part of the site that would require access for heavy machinery and construction supplies through Selent Drive where residences already exist.

It was also argued by the residents’ group that sizes of the blocks – an average of 585 square metres with some as small as 374 square metres – were inappropriate for the area, the eventual access from Warragul-Korumburra Rd was at a dangerous location and the estate would create an estimated 2700 additional traffic movements each day.

The planning application was initially lodged with council in September 2017 with a final plan submitted last September after council sought further information.

A date when the application and objections will be considered by council has yet to be set
