Grand final booked

Longwarry’s division two team won through to the grand final in two weeks after a thrilling win over Traralgon on Saturday.

Several shots down early in the day, Longwarry fought back for a five-shot win.

Division two: Longwarry defeated Traralgon (2) 93.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) lost to Graham Cross’ team 22/27.

Longwarry got off to a flying start and were 11/1 up by end six. Traralgon turned its form around and had caught up by the break with scores locked at 15-all.

When play resumed, Traralgon resumed control and by end 22 were eight shots up. Longwarry picked up four shots late to contribute to the overall win. However, Traralgon won this rink by five shots.

Brian Hennessy, Grant Pask, Hank Metselaar and Russell White (skip) defeated Bill Bishop’s team 25/24.

Longwarry started well, winning seven of the first eight ends to lead 98 13/1. A lapse of concentrat­ion from the boys allowed Traralgon to pick up a seven on end nine.

The remainder of the game was tight with Longwarry holding on to win by one shot.

Lloyd Maisey, Glenn Pask, Ian Peterson, and Slim Eastwell (skip) lost to G. Cole’s team 24/25.

Traralgon totally dominated the scoreboard in this rink to be 9/24 by end 19. However, someone forgot to tell Longwarry the game was over. In the next six ends they picked up 15 shots to one to just go down by one shot in a great comeback. It was a big contributi­on in Longwarry’s overall win.

Simon Counsel, Mark Serong, John McCarthy and Ken White (skip) defeated Daniel Cooper’s team 27/17.

Longwarry were slow to begin and down 0/8 by end four. With Simon leading well, they won 12 of the next 14 ends to be 10 shots up by end 19. The remainder of the game was even with Longwarry recording a great 10-shot win.

Mark Atkinson of Drouin Bowling Club won the champion of champion men’s singles at Inverloch on Sunday.

After winning the Strzelecki Region final over Shane O’Loughlin of Korumburra, Mark will progress to the state singles title at Bendigo in April.

In other results, Scott Jones and Tom Lodge of Trafalgar lost the men’s pairs to Mick Coram and Frank Seaton of Inverloch and Sheryl Atkinson and Samantha Atkinson of Drouin lost the women’s pairs to the composite pairing of Jenny Miller of Loch and Paddy Francis of Phillip Island.

The men’s fours was won by Neville Brown and Vin McIlwain of Traralgon, Kevin Lovett of Newborough and Ross Sizeland of Traralgon RSL.

The men’s triples went to Glen Cohen, Peter Forrest and Russel May of Phillip Island whilst the women’s triples was won by Kay Garry, Pat Trewin and Lucy Dalli of Traralgon.

Three more finals will be played Korumburra on Sunday. at

Plenty of wind preceded heavy rain to see only one match completed in the final round of midweek pennant on Tuesday.

Apart from a completed match played under the roof at Morwell, all results were treated as draws.

Division one and three finals will be played at Trafalgar and division two and four finals at Newborough.

The matches will be played today (Tuesday), starting from 10am.

Division one: Drouin v Traralgon at Trafalgar; Newborough v Traralgon RSL at Trafalgar.

Division two: Warragul v Warragul (2) at Newborough; Traralgon (2) v Moe at Newborough.

Division three: Traralgon (3) v Garfield at Trafalgar; Newborough (3) v Moe (2) at Trafalgar.

Division four: Longwarry v Warragul (3) at Newborough; Drouin (3) v Morwell (3) at Newborough.
