Traralgon suffers third straight loss

-

Traralgon finds itself in rare territory, winless after three rounds, after falling short against Moe in their Gippsland League clash on Saturday night.

In a game in which 15 of the 17 goals were kicked at one end Moe, after trailing all the way, hauled in the Maroons in the last quarter to snatch an important eightpoint victory – 9-7 to 8-5.

Traralgon certainly has some ground to make up to join the race for the “five” but it hasn’t been far off the mark in its three games so far, just falling short to Drouin, Leongatha and now Moe.

Moe has yet to lose and sits clear at the head of the ladder but a better assessment of its capabilities will be possible after challenging games in the next five rounds.

Its win over Traralgon was achieved without star forward Spencer White, who didn’t take the ground despite being selected on Thursday night, but the Lions did get back James Blaser.

Bairnsdale that had looked promising in the opening two rounds without getting over the line was much more comfortable on its home ground for the first time this season.

It was always in charge on the way to scoring 14-3 to 8-7 against Morwell.

The Warragul-Drouin “neighbourhood derby” on Sunday completed the split round that had opened with two games on Good Friday.

Warragul is still searching for its first win after falling short by 13 points in a hardfought contest.

On Good Friday Maffra took the sword to Sale winning by an unexpected 74point margin and limiting Sale to just four goals.

Just as eye-catching was Wonthaggi’s toppling of premiers for the past two years, Leongatha, at Wonthaggi.

Power has bolstered its lineup this year with some talented recruits from the eastern suburbs and its performances over the next few weeks will be closely watched.

Leongatha has been short of its optimum line-up from the start of the season but still has a strong side with plenty of player depth at the club.
