Under 18s close at Poowong

Poowong and Longwarry produced a close contest in the under 18s, with the Magpies holding on to win by just three points.

The Magpies kicked four of the first five goals of the match to kick away to a handy 22point buffer at half time.

While they could only manage four behinds in the second half, the Magpies did enough to hold off a fast finishing Longwarry to win 4-11 (35) to 4-8 (32).

Darcy Burgess, Hayden Wallis, Mathew Burr, Jacksen Barlow, Darcy Loughridge and Jai Derrick helped the Magpies make a strong start.

Trent Kearney, Matthew Kouris, Jonah Serong, Angus Adamiak, Harrison Stephens and Bailey Stephens helped the Crows threaten to steal it.

ELLINBANK scored another strong win as other matches were one-sided, keeping Lang Lang goalless on the way to winning 15-14 (104) to 0-1 (1).

Scoring was shared for the Eagles, with 10 individual goal scorers.

Matthew Bow, Nicholas Matheson, Callum Auldist, Mathew Garvey, Jack Benes and Josh Williams were among the better players.

Sam Willemsen, Sam Neill, Mason Koffman, Ron Smith and Travis Short battled against the odds for Lang Lang.

NEERIM-NEERIM SOUTH also kept their opposition goalless, easily accounting for Nyora 15-9 (99) to 0-6 (6).

The game opened up after half time, with 10 of the Cats goals coming in the second half as the Saints ran out of legs.

Josh White booted four goals in a best afield performanc­e, with Heath Darcy and Thomas Pollard also leading the scoring with three majors each.

Kyle Bright, Christian Robertson-Edgar and Harry Notman were also among the better players.

Bailey Murphy, Nathan Perrott, Lincoln Brock, Ben Lineham, Jay Clark and Blake Boyd led the way for the Saints.

BULN BULN’S big victory over NilmaDarnu­m was helped by a strong start and finish.

Six goals in both the first and final term proved key as the Bombers slowed the scoring through the middle of the match.

The Lyrebirds were too powerful, led by Billy Bundle with 10 goals, kicking away to win 1713 (115) to 5-3 (33).

Jake Smith, Jaryd Kelly, Ray Smith, Patrick Smythe and Jacob Blackstock also helped the Lyrebirds to a big win.

Bailey Pryor, Dylan Alberni, Blake Cann, Jordyn Hanssen-De Kort, Brandon Peters and Shaun Cunstance helped the Bombers put some respectabi­lity onto the scoreboard.
