Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Reconsider policy

-

Elizabeth Street Warragul was once one of the finest tree lined streets in Baw Baw Shire.

Over the past four years successive severe pruning has been carried out below power lines on the eastern side of the street. The height of liquid amber trees that once formed an arch over the street has now been reduced to 3 - 4 metres below the power lines.

What was once a vase shaped trimming has become a flat top lopping. An attempt to turn a tree into a shrub. Indeed they were shaped by the shire this year using hedge trimmers.

As a result these trees are now under severe stress and commencing to die back. They will likely be lost if this practice continues.

I have some sympathy with a recent article in the Gazette regarding the absurd pruning of a once magnificent eucalypt in East West Road.

Would the shire please reconsider it's tree policy and source some alterative advice. Trees make the municipality attractive and should be encouraged rather than destroyed."

Big bricks to Baw Baw Shire for not telling us a few weeks ago that there was a free hard rubbish collection coming up. I paid $30 to have my rubbish collected and others paid $60.

Trafalgar kindergarten $1.8 million. You can build a four bedroom home for under $200,000. Please explain.

Bouquets to Gwen and the team at the Recycle Me OP Shop in Warragul. The shop closed its doors last week. Sincere best wishes to the wonderful women and men that provided a truly great service to the community and was always so much more than the sale of Op Shop items. The staff and shop will be missed after being part of our community for so many years. We wish you all the very best in your future endeavours. We hope you all still stay connected, and are able to serve the community,as well as you all have done all these years at another location.

Thank you Nigel at Gippy Automotive Services for helping me replace my windscreen wiper after hours. A real gentleman.
