Mother’s Day treat at Garfield

The Garfield Picture Theatre has a special offering this Mother’s Day.

A concert titled “The Day the Music Died” will be on offer on Sunday at 2pm.

It reflects on events from 1959 when rock n roll lost three of its biggest stars – Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP Richardson (aka the Big Bopper).

On the 60th anniversar­y of this tragic event, join Mark Caligiuri, Llewie Adie and Joanne Caligiuri at Garfield Picture Theatre to pay tribute to these greats.

On February 3, 1959, a tragic accident stopped the world in its tracks.

A plane carrying American rock n roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP “The Big Bopper” Richardson crashed only minutes after take-off in Iowa.

The day was forever named “The Day the Music Died” in honour of these three legends who were all so young and talented. They may be gone, but their music will always be celebrated and never forgotten.

Mark Caligiuri channels Buddy Holly and has been wowing audience for over 20 years. He has performed over 5000 shows and toured internatio­nally and all across Australia.

His moves, voice and ability to connect with his audience are second to none.

Caligiuri is joined by long-time singer and talented musician Llewie Adie who will perform some of the hits of Richie Valens and the Big Bopper.

Adie has been working in the music industry for over 30 years and brings a real presence to the stage.

Special guest Joanne Caligiuri will sing some well-known 1950s rock n roll hits that will get the audience up and dancing. As a singer and dancer, she has an energy that is sure to excite and delight.

With awesome music and afternoon tea, it’s sure to be loads of fun and a perfect way to spend Mother’s Day.

Garfield Picture Theatre has three further shows scheduled.

The first is “Memories of Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler” on Saturday, May 25. It stars Victoria Stanboroug­h.

In June, Australia’s premier Beatles tribute act will be in town. “The Beatlez Tribute Show” will be performed on Saturday, June 22.

The “Rock n Roll Tribute Show” is the third show scheduled on Saturday, July 20. It stars Garry Jones and Issi Dye.
