Seven teams breathe down the Crow’s neck

- By Keith Anderson

Undefeated Longwarry heads the pack but one win is all that separates the next seven teams after four Ellinbank and district league rounds.

The Crows have had a couple of narrow escapes in their four wins but not on Saturday when they crushed a struggling Lang Lang by more than 20 goals.

There were plenty of changes on the ladder on the weekend.

Ellinbank lost its top position when beaten at Poowong by 10 points.

But the Eagles threw away plenty of chances to win, especially in the last quarter.

The Magpies kicked 10-9 to 7-17 with Ellinbank not managing a goal after half time; just nine behinds with six of them coming in the last term when kicking to what had been the scoring end all day.

Neerim Neerim South jumped up to third behind Ellinbank on percentage as a result of a solid 44-point win against Catani that was another side not to add to its goal tally in the second half.

Nyora’s win over Nilma-Darnum got it fourth spot with the best percentage of five teams on two wins.

Yarragon is one of those teams after getting over Buln Buln, that had two wins before Saturday, 8-8 to 6-7.

Nilma-Darnum and Lang Lang are the only sides yet to win but that will change on Saturday when they meet at Darnum.

Neerim Neerim South at home to Poowong looms as the match of the round.

Yarragon will be home to defending premier Nyora that is looking to push to consolidate in the top group.

Catani’s tenuous hold on fifth spot will be severely tested by Ellinbank that will be aiming to win back top rung during the next few weeks.

Longwarry looks to have too much firepower for Buln Buln that will be without its best player Matt Gray for several weeks as he recovers from having his appendix removed last week. Matches at grounds of first named clubs are:Neerim Neerim South v. Poowong. Yarragon v. Nyora. Nilma-Darnum v. Lang Lang. Catani v. Ellinbank. Buln Buln v. Longwarry
